APEC currently provides studio space for 15 artists ranging in both age (30-80) and medium - painting, sculpture, performance, printmaking, photography, digital and multi-media.
Our studios were set up in 2003 to provide secure, affordable workspace specifically for fine artists – those whose practices are some of the most financially vulnerable – in an area of the country where suitable premises are scarce and increasingly expensive.
In its 20-year history APEC has been home to over 70 artists, curators and educators. The building we are based in: Industrial House, Conway Street, Hove is owned by Brighton & Hove City Council and is home to several other creative industries.
We maintain a diverse, dynamic identity, with a shared belief in seriousness of intent and delight in artistic diversity. Maintaining a mix of established professionals with art graduates helps ensure a freshness and generosity of spirit that keeps us open to new ideas and produce an environment where creativity can thrive.
As a group we have often held exhibitions and open studios during the annual Brighton Festival, Cinecity and Photo Fringe. Outside of these advertised events the space has been used as an educational and cultural resource for visitors from institutions and community groups.
